Welcome

Hello!  My name is Mary Axelrod and I would like to warmly welcome your child and family to Carol Rae Ranch Elementary School, home of the Coyotes.  I am passionate about teaching and look forward to the opportunity to work with your child and family this school year.

As a reading coach, I am fortunate to work with all grade levels to meet the literacy needs of our students.  My passion has always been working with children to ignite a love for reading.  I want to provide children with the tools they need to become proficient readers.  I enjoy collaborating with teachers to prepare our students for success in reading by providing instructional support that focuses on differentiated instruction and our College and Career Ready Standards.

About Me

I am a native Arizonan.  I grew up in Tucson and attended the University of Arizona and later transferred to Arizona State University where I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education.  Since I am a life-long learner, I went on to receive the following endorsements: Early Childhood, K-12 Reading, Structured English Immersion, and Middle Grades Language Arts (6-8).  I have taught pre-kindergarten, first grade and physical education. This is my 17th year teaching and my third year at Carol Rae Ranch.  I have always been passionate about teaching reading and I am thrilled to be at a wonderful school with great families and colleagues.

When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends and being outdoors.  I enjoy running, cycling, traveling, and reading.  I have been married to my husband, Brian, for sixteen years and we have two beautiful children, Ella and Josh.

I am excited to be your reading coach this year and I am looking forward to working together to make it a GREAT year!
