Science and Social Studies
In our 6th grade Science curriculum, we focus on the concepts of Measuring Time, Land forms, Space Exploration and our Atmosphere.
During our Social Studies studies, we explore the ancient civilization of Mesopotamia, Egypt, Israel, Rome, and Greece. We also delve into World War II, the Civil Rights Movement, Current Events, and our culminating project is a World's Fair research project.
My name is Renae Cruz. It’s hard to believe, but I am in my 21st year teaching. I hail from the great state of Wisconsin, but I have been an Arizona resident since 1999. I have previously taught 2nd grade for 6 years, but I have been a 6th grade teacher for the last 15 years. Our 6th grade team has departmentalized our curriculum, so I now concentrate my teaching on Science and Social Studies. The highlight of my school year is leading our 6th graders on a week long Science Camp trip to the mountains in northern Arizona.
I received my undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin in Business Administration. I joined the corporate world, had my “dream job” working in Human Resources at a large bank, however, I was anything but satisfied. After months of soul-searching, I re-enrolled in school, earned my degree in Education, and have never looked back or regretted that decision. After relocating to Arizona in 1999, I earned my Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Arizona State University.
As a devout sports fan, most of my free time is spent pursuing all things athletic. I am one of our running coaches involved. After school and on weekends, my time is devoted to chauffeuring my 8 year old daughter, Isabella, to her basketball and soccer practices and games! We are die-hard Green Bay Packer, Chicago Cubs, and Wisconsin Badger fans, but as Arizonans, we love rooting for the Cardinals and ASU Sun Devils!
This year I have embarked on the next chapter of my career, and I am enrolled in GCU's Educational Administration and Leadership Master program. I am excited to make my mark and influence the next generation of teachers. I want to share my years of experience, knowledge, and wisdom with those who are on the front lines of the classroom, making a difference in the lives of students and influencing a future generation of global citizens!
